The Director of Public Instruction (D.P.I.) used to head the Technical Education also at the time of formation of Andhra Pradesh.
To help speed up the process of development of Technical Education, a Board in the name and style of “STATE BOARD OF TECHNICAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING” was created vide G.O.Ms.No.371 Edn-dated 26.2.1957. The Joint Director (Technical Education) of DPI used to act as secretary of this newly formed Board. The Board is formed as a statutory body under the A.P. Education Act-1982 (act 1 of 1982), an act of assembly, in the present form, vide G.O.Ms.No.140 dated 24.4.1984. In accordance with the powers conferred by Sub-Sections (1) and (2) of Section 6 read with Sub-Section (1) of Section 99 of the said Act, the Government of Andhra Pradesh have established a Board of Technical Education “The State Board of Technical Education & Training, Andhra Pradesh” in G.O.Ms.No.140, dated 24-4-1984. JNTU is situated in the heart of the city at Kukatpally. The university has ‘A’ Grade accreditation by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council).
JNTU College of Engineering, Anatapur stands aloft on a solid foundation of past glory and prestige. This college was started in the year 1946, under the post war reconstruction program and functioned at guindy campus, Madras for two years and was shifted to Anantapur in 1948. It was in the year 1958 that the college was shifted to the present permanent buildings accommodating the Administrative block, Laboratories, the Engineering Departments, Library and the Hostel blocks.
An institution with academic and research -oriented courses, the B.Tech programs (undergraduate programs) are about 25. Major branches among them are Aeronautical Engineering, Automobile, Biotechnology, Information Technology, Electronics, Electrical, Instrumentation and Control, Metallurgy, Mechanical, Bio-medical, and Civil. The major branches are Bio-Technology, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Remote-Sensing and GIS, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Water Resources, Mechanical Engineering, Nano-Technology, Energy Systems, Environmental Studies, Microbiology, Food-Technology, Management, Computer Applications, and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Madras University is the mother of almost all the old Universities of southern India. The University area of jurisdiction has been confined to, however, 3 districts of Tamil Nadu in recent years. This is consequent to establishment of various universities in the State and demarcation of the University territories. This University has been growing from strength to strength while widening its teaching and research activities.
The Public Petition dated 11-11-1839 initiated the establishment of Madras University. It was in January 1840 with Mr.George Norton as its President, that the University Board was constituted. In 1854 after a lapse of 14 years, the Government of India formulated a systematic educational policy for India and as a sequel to this on 5th September 1857 by an act of legislative council of India the University was established. The University was organised in the model of London University.

JNTU was originally ‘The College of Engineering, Vizagpatnam’ at the time of its establishment in 1946. It is now a sprawling campus of 110 acres, green with mango trees in the fast developing Port city of Kakinada, East coast of peninsula India. Kakinada has a rich political literacy and cultural heritage passed on through generations This college became a constituent of the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University w.e.f 02-10-1972 through an act of legislature along with other sister institutions under the control of the then Director of Technical Education, Government of Andhra Pradesh. Earlier, it was affiliated to Andhra University. In the year 2003 the college has become autonomous.
The Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) is a university, primarily focused on engineering, located in Hyderabad, India, with satellite campuses in Kakinada and Anantapur. It also offers a school of business. Founded in 1965 as the Nagarjuna Sagar Engineering College, the school was renamed in 1972.

The Government of Andhra Pradesh established its first University of Health Sciences fulfilling the recommendations of several committees. Thuda from 1 November 1986. After the death of its founder the University was named after him as NTR University of Health Sciences, Andhra Pradesh, with effect from February 1998.
The University office was temporarily accommodated in the Siddhartha Medical College building and functioned in that limited space till March, 2002. In April, 2002 it moved into its building which is having spacious accommodation for the office and staff, and waiting area for students and other visitors. Separate counters for admissions, examinations etc., are provided in the hall. There is a library and computer center from where the library network is operated.
