Gauhati University was established by an act of the Legislature of he State, namely, the Gauhati University Act 1947 (Assam Act,XVI of 1947), Government of Assam in 1948. The University is unded by the University Grants Commission and the Government of Assam. In addition, various state and government Cetntral offerseveral scholarships and assistance for research and other academic activities. The University is in existence 58 years, and isthe oldest, largest, and the seat of most major higher educationthroughout the northeast region of India.

The first meeting of the Court of the University was held on26.1.1948 in the old Hall Sudmerson Cotton College, Guwahati.Consequently, the date “January 26″ is observed as theFoundation Day of Gauhati University. Thanks to the continued and tireless efforts of a group of dedicated workers like GopinathBordoloi (the first Chief Minister of Assam. He was awarded with’Bharat Ratna’ posthumously), Bezbarua Madhab, BhubaneswarBarua, Sarat Chandra Goswami, Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed (formerPresident of India), and many others, and the help and cooperationof the people of Assam, the University could be eatablished in 1948.

Eligibility: A Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent grade in aggregate or in major subject from a recognized Indian or foreign university / institution. Students in their final year of degree courses and expecting results by October 31, 2011 may also apply.

Selection: Candidates should appear in either Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) between October 27, 2010 to November 24, 2010 or Management Aptitude Test (MAT) to be conducted by All India Management Association (AIMA) on December 05, 2010. No other MAT score will be accepted. They must include Tezpur University as a choice in the CAT voucher or the MAT application form. The Tezpur University application form must be submitted within the specified period to the University along with the proof of having applied for CAT/MAT.

How to apply: Tezpur University Application Form together with the Prospectus can be obtained from (i) the designated branches of Punjab National Bank at Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Guwahati (Fancy Bazaar), Tezpur by paying ` 710/- (For SC/ST ` 360/-) in cash or (ii) by sending a request to the Controller of Examinations, Tezpur University, P.O. Napaam, Tezpur , PIN-784028, Dist-Sonitpur, Assam with a bank draft of ` 760/- (For SC/ST ` 410/-) only drawn in favour of the Registrar, Tezpur University payable at Tezpur

Dibrugarh University, the easternmost University of India was set up in 1965 under the provisions of the Dibrugarh University Act, 1965 enacted by the Assam Legislative Assembly. It is a teaching-cum-affiliating University with limited residential facilities. The University is situated at Rajabheta at a distance of about five kilometres to the south of the premier town of Dibrugarh in the eastern part of Assam as well as India. Dibrugarh, a commercially and industrially advanced town in the entire northeastern region also enjoys a unique place in the fields of Art, Literature and Culture. The district of Dibrugarh is well known for its vast treasure of minerals (including oil and natural gas and coal), flora and fauna and largest concentration of tea plantations.

The diverse tribes with their distinct dialects, customs, traditions and culture form a polychromatic ethnic mosaic, which becomes a paradise for the study of Anthropology and Sociology, besides art and culture. The Dibrugarh University Campus is wel l linked by roads, rails, air and waterways. The National Highway No.37 passes through the University Campus. The territorial jurisdiction of Dibrugarh University covers seven districts of Upper Assam, viz, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Golaghat, Dhemaji and Lakhimpur.

The University Campus extends over an area of more than 500 acres of which 60 acres are still covered under tea plantation. The University is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with an institutional score of 71% (B grade). The Re-accreditation has also been done in March 2009. Dibrugarh University is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and recognised by all Universities in India and abroad on reciprocal basis.

Gauhati University LLM (First Semester) Programme Admission 2011

Gauhati University, Assam, has invited applications from eligible law graduates for the admission into Master of Law (LLM) first semester programme, to be offered in the ensuing session 2011. Admissions are done on the basis of candidate’s performance in a statutory written admission test to be held on the date mentioned below. The written admission test will be based upon the topics like jurisprudence, constitutional law, Indian panel code and current legal problems.

How to Apply:

Interested candidates can obtain the application form with prospectus from Gauhati University Publication Department (GUPD) or from Gauhati University Information Centre, WUS Building, Ambari, Guwahati-1 on all working days between 11.00 am to 2.00 pm on payment of Rs 250. Thereafter, the duly filled application form along with the admission test fee of Rs 200 should be submitted in the Department of Law, Gauhati University. In order to maintain a uniform standard of graduate and post graduate teaching throughout the country, the Government of India through its notification in 1988 stated that only those candidates would be considered eligible for a post lecturer, who besides fulfilling the minimum academic qualification for it, also qualify in comprehensive test, National Eligibility Test (NET), to be conducted for the purpose. Accordingly the University Grants Commission (UGC) has been conducting the eligibility Test for lecturership on Humanities and Social Science subjects. The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) have been conducting the eligibility test for lecturership in the Science subjects.

Assam (DLN): SLET Results 2010 have been declared by State Level Eligibility Test Commission, Assam. State Eligibility Test (SLET 2010) was held in June 13th, 2010.The list of selected candidates has been published at the official website and available here online. These eligible candidates are eligible for appointment as lecturers in the Colleges and Universities in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur, Meghalaya, Sikkim and Tripura.
