The Indira Gandhi National Open University, (known as IGNOU) is a national university with its headquarters in New Delhi, Delhi, India. Named after former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi, the university was established in 1985 with a budget of INR 2000 crore, when the Parliament of India passed the Indira Gandhi National Open University Act, 1985 (IGNOU Act 1985).
IGNOU, the largest university in the world with 3,500,000 students; was founded to impart education by means of distance and open education, provide higher education opportunities particularly to the disadvantaged segments of society, to encourage, coordinate and set standards for distance and open education in India and strengthen the human resources of India through education. Apart from teaching and research, extension and training form the mainstay of its academic activities. It also acts as a national resource centre, and serves to promote and maintain standards of distance education in India. IGNOU hosts the Secretariats of the SAARC Consortium on Open and Distance Learning (SACODiL) and the Global Mega Universities Network (GMUNET) initially supported by UNESCO.
In 1970 (International Education Year), the Ministry of Education and Social Welfare in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the UGC and the Indian National Commission for cooperation with UNESCO, organised a seminar on ‘Open University’. The seminar recommended the establishment of an open university in India on an experimental basis. The Government of India appointed eight member working group on Open University in 1974. The leading role was given to G. Parthasarathi, the then Vice-Chancellor of the Jawaharlal Nehru University.

- Jail Inmates column removed from Application form (applicant not to fill Jail inmate column)
- Application form to be submitted only at concerned Regional Center under which the opted Special Study Center operates
Entrance Test For MEDSE Programme:
- Last date of submission of Application form to Concerned IGNOU – Regional Centres – 10-01-2011.

- Date of Entrance Examination – 13th Feb 2011 (Sunday)

- For MEDSE – Study Centre -27180 D; Dr Shakuntala Mishra Rehabilitation University under IGNOU – RC – Lucknow deleted from list in Hearing Impairment, Mental Retardation & Visual Impairment. Hence 27180 D will not operate as a Study Centre for MEDSE. Applications not to be submitted IGNOU Regional Centre Lucknow.
- Application for MEDSE must be received with attested copy of employment certificate duly attested by gazetted officer.

The IGNOU BCA Course is planned for those students who want to make their career in the field of information technology and Mathematics. Student who has done 10+2 can enroll for this program. IGNOU BCA program offers theoretical as well as practical knowledge of computers and software technology.
Eligibility for taking admission in IGNOU BCA course:
- 10+2 with Mathematics as a distinct subject.
- 10+2 without having Mathematics subject with IGNOU CIC course. If you don’t have CIC certificate then you need to complete PPC course with BCA.
Course duration: Min: 3 years and Max. 6 years.
Course Medium: This course is only available in English medium.
