Vinoba Bhave University, Jharkhand, came into existence as a teaching-cum-affiliating state university on the 17th of September, 1992, after the bifurcation of Ranchi University, by Act 3 of 1990 passed by Bihar Assembly. It fell under Jharkhand after the creation of the state on November 15, 2000. Its headquarters is at Hazaribag, a town of sylvan surroundings and tranquillity amid verdant forests. The post-graduate campus and the administrative block, along with the university engineering college, are situated over a huge area on the Patna-Ranchi national highway, NH33. Its jurisdiction extends to a large part of North Chotanagpur, including Bokaro, Dhanbad, Ramgarh, Chatra, Giridih, Koderma and Hazaribag districts, comprising a large number of constituent and affiliated graduate and post graduate colleges, technical and vocational institutes. It also exercises authority over all the Sanskrit, Homeopathic and Ayurvedic colleges of Jharkhand.

Ranchi University came into existence on the 12th of July, 1960 as a teaching-cum-affiliating university with headquarters at Ranchi. At present, the University spans five districts of Jharkhand, namely, Ranchi, Gumla, Khunti, Simdega and Lohardaga. Right since its inception Ranchi University has been alive to the ever increasing demands of higher education. Keeping apace with changing times, the University today offers vocational courses. For the less privileged students coming from the scheduled tribes or scheduled castes, special coaching classes are engaged to prepare them for competitive examinations.
The syllabi for main stream courses in science, humanities and commercetoo have been upgraded to meet the requirements of University GrantsCommission(UGC).

Central Institute of Psychiatry (CIP), Ranchi, Jharkhand, has invited applications for admission into the following postgraduate (PG) programmes of Ranchi University, to be offered in the ensuing session 2011. Admissions are done on the basis of an entrance examination followed by an interview/counseling. The entrance examination and interview/counseling will be held from February 20-26, 2011. The courses will be conducted at CIP, Ranchi. The session will be commencing from May 1, 2011.

How to Apply: Interested candidates have to submit the application form electronically by visiting the institute’s official website: http://cipranchi.nic.in/. The hard copy of the duly filled application form printed on A4 size bond paper along with a DD of Rs 400 (Rs 300 for SC/ST/OBC candidates) drawn in favor of the Director, CIP, Ranchi payable at Ranchi should be submitted to the Director, Central Institute of Psychiatry, Kanke, Ranchi-834006 (Jharkhand). For further details, candidates can visit the institute’s aforementioned website.
Note: The hard copy of the application form must be duly signed by the candidate and his/her photograph pasted in appropriate place. Candidates applying for both MD and DPM and for both PhD (Clinical Psychology) and M Phil in Medical and Social Psychology courses starting from May 1, 2011 need to submit only one application each. They should clearly mention the names of the course applied for, in order of preference.
